deserting deserts

“Already at the moment there are tens of millions of people on the move,” Dr. Adeel said in an interview. “There’s internal displacement. There’s international migration. There are a number of causes. But by and large, in sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia this movement is triggered by degradation of land.” (thanks Anna)

But have you heard about Niger? Reforestation etc.? I heard the most hopeful story about it on NPR tonight - All Things Considered.

You probably know about this one as well, forgive me for sending you links to things in your area of expertise. I'm just happy to hear one bit of hopeful news on reforestation. I would happily pay money to somebody to plant trees in Lebanon. (Palestine, too. And Iraq for that matter). Tell me where to send the check.
